Description

This pattern features a classic ribbed mesh stitch, perfect for a stylish men's vest.

Materials

Gauge

20 stitches x 28 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch using larger needles

Instructions

  1. Back Panel:
  2. Using larger needles, cast on 80 (88, 96) stitches.

    Work in ribbed mesh stitch pattern:

    Row 1: *K2, P2* to end

    Row 2: Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches

    Repeat these 2 rows until the piece measures 18 (19, 20) inches from cast on edge, ending with a wrong side row.

  3. Shoulder Shaping:
  4. Bind off 6 (7, 8) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows.

    Continue in pattern until the piece measures 16 (17, 18) inches from the bound off stitches, ending with a wrong side row.

    Bind off all stitches.

  5. Front Panels (make 2):
  6. Work as for back panel until the piece measures 14 (15, 16) inches from cast on edge, ending with a wrong side row.

    Shape neck:

    Next row: Work 28 (31, 34) stitches, attach a second ball of yarn, work to end.

    Continue to work both sides at the same time, decreasing 1 stitch at each neck edge every other row 3 times.

    Work even until the piece measures the same as back to the shoulder shaping, ending on the wrong side.

    Bind off all stitches.

  7. Finishing:
  8. Sew shoulder seams.

    Sew side and underarm seams.

    Weave in all ends.
