1. Cast on 8 stitches using long tail cast on method
2. Round 1: Knit all stitches
3. Round 2: Purl all stitches
4. Repeat Rounds 1-2 until piece measures 4 inches
5. Next Round: (K2tog) 4 times. 4 stitches remain
6. Next Round: (Ssk) 2 times. 2 stitches remain
7. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining 2 stitches, pull tight to close the gap
8. Ears (Make 2):
9. Cast on 6 stitches
10. Row 1: Knit all stitches
11. Row 2: Purl all stitches
12. Row 3: (K2tog) 3 times. 3 stitches remain
13. Row 4: Purl all stitches
14. Row 5: (Ssk) 1 time, k1. 2 stitches remain
15. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining 2 stitches, pull tight to close the gap
16. Assembly:
17. Sew the ears onto the top sides of the coaster
18. Weave in all ends
