Description

• Needles: US 8 (5 mm) 32-inch circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge). Worked flat.
• Notions: Yarn needle, scissors, 4 locking stitch markers (optional, for edge tracking), tape measure

Gauge

18 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in garter stitch (knit every row), blocked.

Pattern Notes

• Blanket is worked flat in garter stitch (knit every row). Both sides look identical.
• Color changes: Change colors at the beginning of a RS row for clean stripes. Carry unused yarn loosely up the side if stripes are close; otherwise break yarn and weave ends.
• Selvage (optional neat edge): Slip the first stitch purlwise with yarn in front on every row, then knit the rest. This creates a tidy chain edge.
• Dimensions: Width set by cast-on; length by row count. Measure as you go.

Body – Garter Stitch with Batman Stripes

Work in garter stitch (k every row) for the entire blanket.

Stripe Sequence (repeat for iconic Batman look):

• Rows 1–36: MC (black) — 4" black
• Rows 37–54: CC1 (yellow) — 2" yellow
• Rows 55–72: CC2 (gray) — 2" gray
• Rows 73–108: MC (black) — 4" black
• Rows 109–126: CC1 (yellow) — 2" yellow
• Rows 127–144: CC2 (gray) — 2" gray
• Rows 145–180: MC (black) — 4" black
• Rows 181–198: CC1 (yellow) — 2" yellow

Tip: Place a marker every 36 rows or use a row counter. At each color change, leave a 6-inch tail for weaving.

Optional Simple Border (applied after body)

For a clean finished edge without changing the beginner nature:
After completing row 324, do not bind off yet.
With MC, knit 4 additional rows (garter ridge border).
Then BO all sts knitwise on next row.
Alternatively, after binding off the body, pick up and knit stitches evenly around all four sides (approx. 135 sts on long edges, 120 sts on short edges + 4 corner sts) and work 4 rounds of garter (knit one round, purl one round) or simply knit every round for a rolled edge, binding off loosely. This is optional—blanket is complete and usable without it.

Bind Off

With MC, BO all stitches knitwise. Cut yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Pull through last stitch to secure.
(Final dimensions remain 30 x 36" ✓)

Finishing

1. Weave in all ends securely on the WS using yarn needle. Match yarn colors to stripes.
2. Block gently: Soak in lukewarm water with mild wool wash, roll in towel to remove excess water, pin to 30 x 36" measurements on blocking mats, and allow to dry flat. This evens stitches and sets size.
3. Steam-block acrylic if needed (hover iron, do not touch).
4. Optional: Embroider a simple yellow bat outline in the center gray stripe with duplicate stitch or surface crochet for a subtle Batman touch (beginner-friendly, no charts required).

Care Instructions

Machine wash gentle cold, tumble dry low (acrylic) or hand wash and lay flat (wool blend).
