Materials

Gauge

5 sc and 5 rnds = 1 inch (2.5 cm) in continuous rounds, worked tightly.
Exact gauge is not critical; work firmly so stuffing does not show.

Pattern Notes

Lightly stuff.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not overstuff so arms stay soft against the body.

Horns (make 2 — Color C)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Lightly stuff tip only (or leave unstuffed for softer horns). Shape into a gentle curve with your fingers when sewing.

Ears (make 2 — Color A; optional Color D inner)

Outer ear (Color A):
Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
Rnd 2: (sc, inc) around [9]
Rnd 3: sc around [9]
Rnd 4: (sc, dec) around [6]
Flatten and fasten off, leaving a long tail. Do not stuff.
(Optional: crochet a second smaller oval in Color D and sew to center of ear before attaching to head.)

Tail (Color A + Color C tip)

With Color A:
Ch 8.
Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across [7 sl st].
Fasten off, leaving tail for sewing.
With Color C, cut 3 short strands (~3 inches / 7.5 cm). Fold in half and pull loop through tip of tail; pull ends through loop (lark’s head) and trim for a small tassel.

Flower Crown Pieces

Small Flower (make 5–6 in mixed colors)

Rnd 1: 5 sc in MR, join with sl st to first sc [5]
Petals: *(ch 2, 2 dc in same st, ch 2, sl st in same st), sl st in next st; repeat from * in each of the 5 sts — 5 petals.
Fasten off, leave tail for sewing. Pull MR tight.
Optional center: French knot or small scrap of yellow sewn in middle.

Leaf (make 4–5 — green)

Ch 5.
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next, dc in next, (hdc, sc, ch 1, sc, hdc) in last ch; turn to work other side of chain: dc in next, hdc in next, sc in last. Sl st to first sc.
Fasten off, leave tail.

Assembly

1. Snout: Pin snout centered on lower face (over Rnds 10–13 of head). Sew with Color D tail. Embroider a small curved smile below nostrils if desired.
2. Eyes: If not using safety eyes, embroider simple oval or French-knot eyes above snout, ~6 sts apart. Add a tiny white highlight stitch for shine.
3. Ears: Flatten ears. Sew one on each side of head at approx. Rnds 5–7, angled slightly forward.
4. Horns: Sew horns on top of head between ears, slightly toward the front third of the crown, about 4–5 sts apart. Curve tips outward or upward.
5. Head to body: Pin head on top of body (closed ends together). Sew securely all around with strong yarn, adding a tiny bit of extra stuffing in the neck join if needed for a full shape.
6. Legs: For a seated bull, sew two legs to lower front of body and two to lower back/bottom so the toy sits stably. For standing, sew all four under the body in a rectangle.
7. Arms (optional): Sew to upper sides of body just below head join.
8. Tail: Sew to lower back center.
9. Optional spots: With Color B, embroider or surface-crochet 2–4 irregular oval spots on body and one small spot on head.
10. Flower crown:
    • Arrange flowers in a gentle arc or full ring that fits around the base of the horns and across the forehead.
    • Sew flowers to each other through back loops or with a running stitch of green yarn to form a chain/crown.
    • Tuck leaves under and between flowers; sew in place.
    • Tack crown to head in 3–4 places (behind horns and at sides) so it stays put but still looks perched. Do not pull stitches tight enough to pucker the head.

Finishing

• Weave in all ends securely on the inside or under pieces.
• Roll the toy gently between your hands to even the stuffing.
• Steam is not usually needed; reshape horns and ears with fingers.
• Check that all small parts (horns, flowers) are firmly attached for the intended user.

Customization Ideas (beginner-safe)

• No arms: Omit arms for a classic four-legged sitting bull.
• Keychain size: Stop head/body increases at 18–24 sts and shorten even rounds; use DK yarn and 2.75–3.0 mm hook.
• Bull colors: Full brown body, white face blaze (embroider or small appliqué), black hooves.
• Crown only: Make extra flowers and wear the crown on other toys.
