## MATERIALS

**Yarn:** Sport weight (#2 Fine) yarn in 6 colors

## GRANNY SQUARE INSTRUCTIONS

**ROUND 1** (Foundation): With first color, ch 4, join with sl st to first ch to form ring.

Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), 2 dc in ring, ch 2, [3 dc in ring, ch 2] 3 times, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. (12 dc, 4 ch-2 sps)

Fasten off first color.

**ROUND 2:** Join second color with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp, beg-cl in same sp, ch 2, cl in same sp, ch 1, *[cl, ch 2, cl] in next ch-2 corner sp, ch 1; repeat from * 2 more times, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. (8 clusters, 4 corner ch-2 sps, 4 side ch-1 sps)

Fasten off second color.

**ROUND 3:** Join third color with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp, beg-cl in same sp, ch 2, cl in same sp, ch 1, cl in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, *[cl, ch 2, cl] in next ch-2 corner sp, ch 1, cl in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; repeat from * 2 more times, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. (12 clusters, 4 corner ch-2 sps, 8 side ch-1 sps)

Fasten off third color.

**ROUND 4:** Join Black (A) with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp, beg-cl in same sp, ch 2, cl in same sp, ch 1, [cl in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] twice, *[cl, ch 2, cl] in next ch-2 corner sp, ch 1, [cl in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] twice; repeat from * 2 more times, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. (16 clusters, 4 corner ch-2 sps, 12 side ch-1 sps)

Fasten off, leaving a 10" tail for weaving in.

**Verification:** Each side should have 4 clusters (including corner clusters). Each corner should have 2 clusters with ch-2 between them.

Weave in all ends. Block square to 5" x 5".

Make 324 squares total.

## ASSEMBLY

**Layout:** Arrange squares in 18 rows of 18 squares each. Alternate or arrange color options as desired. Pin or lay out entire blanket before joining to ensure you're happy with color placement.

**Joining Method (Whip Stitch):**

1. Block all squares to same size (5" x 5").

2. Place two squares with wrong sides together, matching stitches.

3. Thread yarn needle with Black yarn (approximately 24" length).

4. Working through back loops only of both squares, whip stitch together along one side, working one stitch in each cluster and corner space.

5. Join squares into rows first (18 squares per row), then join rows together.

6. Weave in all joining ends securely.

**Assembly Math Verification:** 18 squares x 5" = 90" per row ✓; 18 rows x 5" = 90" total ✓

## BORDER (Optional)

With Black (A) and right side facing, join with sl st to any corner ch-2 sp.

**ROUND 1:** Ch 1, 3 sc in same corner sp, *sc evenly along edge to next corner, working approximately 20 sc per square edge (adjust as needed to keep work flat), 3 sc in corner sp; repeat from * around, join with sl st to first sc.

## FINISHING

1. Weave in all remaining ends securely.
