# Speckled Puff Beanie

A cozy bulky-weight beanie featuring a smooth main color background with scattered "popping" puff stitches in contrasting colors—just like confetti speckles. Worked seamlessly top-down with a ribbed brim. No pompom, just colorful texture.

## Special Stitches

**Puff Stitch (puff):** Yarn over with CC, insert hook in indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop to the height of an hdc; repeat 3 more times in the same st (9 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all 9 loops. Ch 1 with CC to close. *Continue with MC in next st.*

**Color Pop Technique:** When working a puff in a contrasting color, insert hook in the next st using MC, yarn over with CC, and complete the puff. The next stitch after the puff is worked normally with MC. Carry MC loosely behind 1–2 stitches; do not carry more than 2 sts—cut and rejoin if farther apart.

## Construction Notes

- Worked **top-down in continuous spiral rounds** (do not join unless noted). Move stitch marker up each round to mark the first stitch.
- Crown begins with a magic ring.
- Puff stitches are placed **randomly** during the body rounds. A suggested placement chart is given, but feel free to scatter them to taste—roughly 1 puff per every 6–8 stitches works best.

## Finishing

1. Weave in all ends securely on the wrong side using a yarn needle. Pay extra attention to CC tails at puff stitches—anchor them through the back of the puff so the colored stitch stays plump and "pops" forward.
2. **Optional blocking:** Stuff the beanie with a rolled towel to round out the crown, mist lightly with water, and let air dry. This evens out the puff stitches and brim ribbing.
3. No pompom, as requested—done!

To adjust for other sizes, work the crown to one of these stitch counts and continue body even:

## Design Tips for Color Placement

- Use **3 accent colors** that contrast strongly with MC (e.g., light gray MC + saturated jewel tones).
- Aim for roughly **12–16 puffs total** scattered evenly—too many and it looks busy; too few and the effect is lost.
- **Avoid placing puffs adjacent** (side by side or stacked); leave at least 5 sts and 1 round between any two puffs.
- For a more subtle look, use only 2 CCs. For maximum confetti effect, use 4–5 CCs.
