The Void Ghost — Creepy Two-Color Amigurumi

A small, staring ghost blob knitted in white with unsettling black eyes and a dripping stitched mouth. Beginner-friendly, worked seamlessly in the round.

Finished Size

Approximately 4 in (10 cm) tall and 2.3 in (6 cm) wide, unstretched.

Difficulty

Beginner (knowledge of knit stitch, working in the round, k2tog, and kfb required).

Materials

• Yarn: Worsted weight (US #4 / medium).
  • Color A – White: ~50 yds (46 m) — the whole body.
  • Color B – Black: ~5 yds (5 m) — embroidered mouth. (Optional: black embroidery for a third eye.)
• Needles: US 6 / 4 mm — set of DPNs or one long circular for Magic Loop. (This is 1–2 sizes smaller than the worsted label's usual US 7–8, giving a tight fabric.)
• Notions:
  • 2 black safety eyes, 9–12 mm (for the two main creepy eyes).
  • (Optional creepy upgrade: 2 extra smaller safety eyes, 6 mm, for a total of 4 eyes.)
  • Polyester fiberfill stuffing — approx. 0.5 oz (14 g).
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Stitch marker.

Gauge

5 sts and 7 rounds = 1 in (2.5 cm) in stockinette, worked in the round, after firm blocking-by-hand.

Gauge note: Exact stitch count is less important than fabric density. Your fabric should feel firm and NOT show white stuffing through the stitches. If you see gaps, go down another needle size.

Construction Overview

The Void Ghost is worked in two pieces, both bottom-up in the round:

1. Body/Head (one seamless sphere) — cast on small, increase to full width, insert eyes, stuff, decrease closed.
2. Two small arm nubs — tiny tubes, lightly stuffed.

Assembly: attach arms symmetrically, weave all ends inside.

Beginner join note: After casting on, distribute stitches evenly and join to work in the round, being careful not to twist. PM to mark the start of the round and move it up each round.

PART 1 — Body / Head (make 1, Color A / White)

Cast on 6 sts. Join in the round. PM.

Increase section (kfb-based; +6 sts each increase round):

• Rnd 1: kfb in every st → 12 sts (6 × 2 = 12 ✓)
• Rnd 2: *k1, kfb; rep from * to end → 18 sts (12 + 6 = 18 ✓)
• Rnd 3: *k2, kfb; rep from * to end → 24 sts (18 + 6 = 24 ✓)
• Rnd 4: *k3, kfb; rep from * to end → 30 sts (24 + 6 = 30 ✓)
• Rnd 5: *k4, kfb; rep from * to end → 36 sts (30 + 6 = 36 ✓)

Straight section (the body):

• Rnds 6–20: knit every st (36 sts). (15 rounds ≈ 2.1 in of height)

Insert the creepy eyes

At about Rnd 14, decide the "front." Place the two black safety eyes on the front, spaced 6 sts apart, roughly 2 rounds apart vertically — but push them slightly uneven / off-level on purpose for the creepy stare. Insert the posts between stitches and snap the washers firmly on the inside before you begin closing.

(Optional 4-eye version: insert two more 6 mm eyes below the main pair, again slightly crooked.)

Decrease section (mirror of increases; −6 sts each decrease round):

• Rnd 21: *k4, k2tog; rep from * to end → 30 sts (36 − 6 = 30 ✓)
• Rnd 22: *k3, k2tog; rep from * to end → 24 sts (30 − 6 = 24 ✓)

STUFF NOW: firmly pack fiberfill so the sphere holds shape and the eyes sit tight. Add stuffing as you continue.

• Rnd 23: *k2, k2tog; rep from * to end → 18 sts (24 − 6 = 18 ✓)
• Rnd 24: *k1, k2tog; rep from * to end → 12 sts (18 − 6 = 12 ✓)
• Rnd 25: k2tog to end → 6 sts (12 ÷ 2 = 6 ✓)

Cut yarn leaving a 6 in (15 cm) tail. Thread through remaining 6 sts, pull tight to close. Weave tail to the inside.

Symmetry check: increases total +30 (6→36), decreases total −30 (36→6). Balanced sphere ✓.

PART 2 — Arm Nubs (make 2, Color A / White)

Cast on 8 sts. Join in the round. PM.

• Rnds 1–5: knit every st (8 sts). (short stubby "creepy little hands")

Do NOT decrease. Lightly stuff (or leave floppy for extra creep). Cut yarn leaving a 10 in (25 cm) tail for sewing. Thread tail through the 8 live sts and gather slightly — leave the cast-on edge open to sew flat against the body.

PART 3 — Embroidered Creepy Mouth (Color B / Black)

Using black yarn and the tapestry needle, embroider directly onto the white front, below the eyes:

1. Stitch a horizontal line of small backstitches for the mouth, about 8–10 sts wide.
2. Add 3–4 short vertical black stitches "dripping" down from the mouth line at uneven lengths for a melting/creepy effect.
3. (Optional): add a few tiny black straight stitches around one eye as "cracks."

Keep tension gentle so the fabric doesn't pucker. Weave ends to the inside.

PART 4 — Assembly & Finishing

Assembly order:

1. Position the arms symmetrically on the sides of the body, roughly at Rnd 12–13 height (mid-body), one on each side an equal number of stitches from the front center.
2. Using each arm's long tail and mattress stitch, sew the open cast-on edge of each arm flat to the body. Sew all the way around for a secure join.
3. Weave in ALL ends securely inside the body, running the tapestry needle through the stuffing and out a different point, then trimming close so no tail pokes out.

Final creepy touches:

• Give the body a gentle squish to even the stuffing.
• If the eyes settled level, that's fine — but a slightly crooked stare is scarier.
