YTC Heart Logo Panel

A small intermediate stranded-colorwork knitting panel that spells YTC with a heart motif centered below the letters. Worked flat in worsted-weight yarn as a decorative square, wall hanging, patch base, or bag motif. Garter-stitch frame keeps edges neat; the face is stockinette so the logo reads cleanly.

Materials

• Yarn (worsted weight, approx. worsted #4):
  • MC (Main Color / background): 55 yd (50 m)
  • CC (Contrast Color / letters & heart): 30 yd (27 m)
    Smooth, light-colored MC and high-contrast CC recommended for letter clarity.
• Needles: US 8 (5 mm) straight or circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
• Notions: Tapestry needle, scissors, locking stitch markers (2), optional blocking pins/wires; optional ½" (1.3 cm) dowel or ribbon for hanging

Gauge

18 stitches and 24 rows = 4" (10 cm) in stockinette stitch, after light blocking.
Check gauge; change needle size if needed. Colorwork tension can tighten fabric—swatch in stranded St st if possible.

Finished Size

One size: approximately 10" wide × 11" tall (25.5 × 28 cm) after blocking.

Pattern Notes

• Panel is worked flat, bottom-up.
• Colorwork is stranded (Fair Isle style): carry the unused color loosely across the WS. Keep floats ≤ 5 sts; catch longer floats every 3–4 sts on WS without puckering.
• Do not weave in ends until after blocking if you prefer to adjust tension.
• Letters and heart are charted only (see Attached Stitch Chart). Work chart stitches in St st; read chart as directed below.
• Side borders (5 sts each side) stay in MC garter throughout the chart section so the logo is neatly framed.
• All stitch-count checks are shown inline for verification.

Attached Stitch Chart

Use the separate attached chart panel supplied with this pattern for the full visual grid of the YTC lettering and heart. Do not rely on any inline grid—the attached panel is the only stitch chart.

Placement in the pattern: The chart is worked in the Body section after the lower garter border and before the upper garter border. It occupies the center 35 stitches of the 45-stitch width.

How to read the chart (knitting):

• Each chart square = 1 stitch.
• Chart is 35 stitches wide × 48 rows high.
• RS rows (odd chart rows): read right → left; knit the stitches.
• WS rows (even chart rows): read left → right; purl the stitches.
• Empty/background squares = MC; filled/motif squares = CC (YTC letters and heart).
• Begin Chart Row 1 on a RS row after the lower border.
• Carry both colors across each chart row; strand unused yarn on WS. Twist yarns at color changes to avoid holes.
• When a chart row is complete, work the 5-st MC garter borders on each side as written in the instructions (borders are not drawn on the chart).

Color / yarn management & stitch-count integration:

• Center the 35-st chart on the 45-st fabric: 5 border sts MC | 35 chart sts | 5 border sts MC (5 + 35 + 5 = 45 ✓).
• Keep MC dominant on the WS floats under the letters so the logo stays crisp.
• Heart sits in the lower portion of the chart, directly under the centered YTC block—follow the attached panel exactly for row alignment.
• No stitch increases or decreases occur inside the chart; stitch count remains 45 on every row.

Instructions

Lower Border

With MC, CO 45 sts.

Rows 1–8 (garter border): Knit every row.
(8 rows garter; still 45 sts ✓)

Place locking markers after stitch 5 and before stitch 41 (i.e., on either side of the center 35 sts) to mark the chart window if desired.

Body (Chart Section)

Join CC. Work the next 48 rows as follows, following the attached stitch chart for the center stitches:

RS rows (Chart Rows 1, 3, 5 … 47):
K5 MC (left border), work Chart Row across next 35 sts in St st (knit, reading chart right → left), k5 MC (right border).
(5 + 35 + 5 = 45 sts ✓)

WS rows (Chart Rows 2, 4, 6 … 48):
K5 MC (right border, still garter), work Chart Row across next 35 sts in St st (purl, reading chart left → right), k5 MC (left border).
(45 sts ✓)

Continue until all 48 chart rows are complete. Break CC.
(Total rows so far: 8 border + 48 chart = 56 rows; 45 sts ✓)

Upper Border

With MC only:

Rows 1–8: Knit every row (garter).
(8 rows; 45 sts ✓)

Total rows: 8 lower + 48 chart + 8 upper = 64 rows ✓
At gauge (24 rows = 4"), 64 rows ≈ 10.7" before final blocking ease; finished height after light block ≈ 11" (28 cm).

Bind Off

BO knitwise on WS (or RS if preferred). Cut yarn, leaving a 8" (20 cm) tail. Pull through last stitch.

Finishing

1. Weave in all ends on WS with tapestry needle. For colorwork ends, weave along matching color floats where possible.
2. Block gently: soak in lukewarm water with mild wool wash, press out water in a towel, pin to 10" × 11" (25.5 × 28 cm) rectangle, and dry flat. Do not overstretch letters.
3. Optional hanging: fold top garter edge over a thin dowel and stitch invisibly, or attach ribbon loops at top corners.
4. Optional backing: sew a felt or fabric rectangle to WS for a patch or banner finish.

Wear / use notes: Panel is non-wearable décor unless sewn onto another garment; if attaching to clothing, use mattress stitch or whipstitch around the garter frame.
