Victorian Colorwork Rectangular Shawl

This rectangular shawl is inspired by Victorian colorwork and nature, combining a variegated yarn with a solid color yarn for a stunning effect.

Materials

• Variegated yarn: 3 skeins of worsted weight yarn (US 7/4.5mm needles, UK 7, 20 sts = 4"/10cm)
• Solid color yarn: 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn (US 8/5mm needles, UK 6, 18 sts = 4"/10cm)
• Knitting needles: US 8/5mm and US 7/4.5mm, or sizes needed to obtain gauge

Gauge

Variegated yarn: 20 sts x 24 rows = 4"/10cm

Solid color yarn: 18 sts x 22 rows = 4"/10cm

Instructions

1. Using variegated yarn and smaller needles, cast on 80 stitches.
2. Work in garter stitch (knit every row) for 10 rows.
3. Switch to solid color yarn and larger needles.
4. Follow chart A for colorwork pattern, repeating the chart across each row.
5. Continue in pattern until shawl reaches desired length, ending with a wrong side row.
6. Switch back to variegated yarn and smaller needles.
7. Work in garter stitch for 10 rows.
8. Bind off all stitches.
