Create your very own adorable 9” teddy bear with a sweet sun bonnet using DK weight yarn. This intermediate-level pattern will guide you through each step to bring your cuddly companion to life.

Materials:

Pattern:

Teddy Bear Body (Make 1):

Using brown yarn, cast on 30 stitches.

Row 1: Knit all stitches.

Row 2: Purl all stitches.

Repeat Rows 1-2 until the piece measures 8 inches from the cast-on edge.

Next row: Knit 12, knit 2 together, knit 12, knit 2 together (28 stitches).

Next row: Purl all stitches.

Next row: Knit 11, knit 2 together, knit 11, knit 2 together (26 stitches).

Continue decreasing in this manner (knit 1 less stitch before each decrease) until 6 stitches remain.

Bind off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Teddy Bear Arms (Make 2):

Using brown yarn, cast on 10 stitches.

Work in stockinette stitch (knit on right side, purl on wrong side) for 6 inches.

Bind off.

Sun Bonnet:

Using color of choice, cast on 40 stitches.

Work in garter stitch (knit every row) for 4 inches.

Bind off.

Assembly:

  1. Stuff the teddy bear body firmly with polyester fiberfill.
  2. Sew the arms to the sides of the body.
  3. Sew the sun bonnet onto the teddy bear's head, leaving an opening for the face.
  4. Embroider eyes and nose onto the teddy bear's face using black yarn.

Your adorable teddy bear with a sun bonnet is now complete!
