Christmas Stocking Knitting Pattern
This pattern creates a festive Christmas stocking with 60 stitches and uses 3 colors for a fun and colorful design.
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in 3 colors A, B, and C (Color A is main color)
- Needles: US 8 / UK 6 / 5 mm double-pointed needles
- Tapestry needle
Gauge:
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Instructions:
- Using Color A, cast on 60 stitches.
- Distribute stitches evenly onto 3 double-pointed needles (20 stitches on each needle).
- Join for working in the round, being careful not to twist.
- Work in stockinette stitch (knit every round) for 10 inches.
- Switch to Color B and knit 2 rounds.
- Switch to Color C and knit 1 round.
- Repeat the color pattern (2 rounds Color B, 1 round Color C) 3 more times.
- Switch back to Color A and knit in stockinette stitch for another 6 inches.
- Shape the toe:
- Round 1: *[K6, k2tog]; repeat from * around.
- Rounds 2-3: Knit all stitches.
- Round 4: *[K5, k2tog]; repeat from * around.
- Rounds 5-6: Knit all stitches.
- Continue in this manner, decreasing by 1 stitch before the decrease every other round until 12 stitches remain.
- Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches, pull tight to close toe, and weave in ends.
- Optional: Add a decorative pom-pom or tassel to the top of the stocking.
