Knitting Pattern: Cozy Cable Cardigan
Overview
This knitting pattern will guide you through creating a cozy cable cardigan. The cardigan features a beautiful cable design and is perfect for keeping warm and stylish during the colder months. The pattern is suitable for intermediate knitters and works best with chunky yarn.
Materials
- Yarn: Chunky weight yarn (8 ply) - approximately 1200 yards (1100 meters)
- Needles: US size 10 (6mm) circular needles and double-pointed needles, UK Old size 4 and 7mm, Metric size 10 and 6mm
- Cable needle
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle
- Buttons (optional)
Instructions
- Cast on 100 stitches using the long-tail cast-on method.
- Row 1: (Right side) Knit all stitches.
- Row 2: (Wrong side) Purl all stitches.
- Row 3: (Right side) Knit all stitches.
- Row 4: (Wrong side) Purl all stitches.
- Row 5: (Right side) Knit all stitches.
- Row 6: (Wrong side) Purl all stitches.
- Row 7: (Right side) Knit all stitches.
- Row 8: (Wrong side) Purl all stitches.
- Row 9 (Cable Row): (Right side) *Slip 6 stitches onto cable needle and hold in front, knit the next 6 stitches from the left needle, knit the 6 stitches from the cable needle.* Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
- Repeat Rows 1-9 three more times.
- Next row (Buttonhole row): (Right side) Knit 3 stitches, bind off the next 2 stitches, knit 11 stitches, bind off the next 2 stitches, knit 22 stitches, bind off the next 2 stitches, knit 11 stitches, bind off the next 2 stitches, knit 3 stitches.
- Continue knitting the remaining rows in the same pattern until the cardigan measures desired length.
- Bind off all stitches.
- Seam the sleeves and sides using a mattress stitch.
- Optional: Sew on buttons to the front of the cardigan.
- Weave in all loose ends.
