This pattern will teach you how to make a cozy knitted hat, perfect for keeping your head warm during the colder months. The hat features a ribbed brim for added stretch and a textured stitch pattern for visual interest.
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch
One size fits most: Adult
Using the circular needles, cast on 88 stitches. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
Round 1: *K2, P2* Repeat to the end of the round.
Repeat Round 1 for the ribbed brim until it measures 2.5 inches (6 cm) long.
Switch to stockinette stitch (knit every round) and continue knitting until the hat measures 8.5 inches (21 cm) from the cast-on edge, or desired length.
Switch to the set of double-pointed needles when necessary.
Round 1: *K6, K2tog* Repeat to the end of the round (77 stitches).
Round 2: Knit all stitches.
Round 3: *K5, K2tog* Repeat to the end of the round (66 stitches).
Round 4: Knit all stitches.
Continue in this manner, decreasing 11 stitches in each decrease round, until you have 11 stitches remaining.
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through a tapestry needle, and slip all remaining stitches onto the needle. Remove the stitch marker.
With the tapestry needle, weave the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat. Secure the tail on the inside of the hat.
Finally, weave in any remaining loose ends and block your hat for a polished finish.
