Round 1: *K2, p2; repeat from * to end of round.
Repeat Round 1 for 1 inch (2.5 cm).
Main Body
Work in stockinette stitch (knit all stitches on the right side, purl all stitches on the wrong side) until the hat measures 7 inches (18 cm) from the cast-on edge, ending with a wrong side row.
Decrease Rounds
Switch to double-pointed needles when necessary.

Round 2 (and all even rounds): Knit.
Round 3: *K7, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round (64 stitches).
Round 5: *K6, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round (56 stitches).
Continue in this manner, decreasing 8 stitches in each decrease round, until there are 8 stitches left.
Finishing
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through a yarn needle and slip the needle through the remaining stitches. Remove the stitches from the needles, cinch the top of the hat closed by pulling the yarn tight, and secure the yarn on the inside of the hat.
Weave in any loose ends and block the hat, if desired. Your easy knitted hat is now complete!
