Pattern

  1. Cast on 30 stitches using the long tail cast on method.
  2. Rows 1-10: Knit all stitches for garter stitch border.
  3. Row 11: Kfb across all stitches (60 stitches).
  4. Rows 12-40: Knit all stitches for stockinette stitch.
  5. Row 41: K1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1 (58 stitches).
  6. Rows 42-50: Knit all stitches for stockinette stitch.
  7. Row 51: K1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1 (56 stitches).
  8. Rows 52-60: Knit all stitches for stockinette stitch.
  9. Continue working the pattern, decreasing 2 stitches on each decrease row until 10 stitches remain.
  10. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Using a yarn needle, thread the tail through the remaining stitches, pull tight to close the top of the head, and secure.
  11. Fold the knitted piece in half with the right side facing in. Using mattress stitch, sew up the sides, leaving the bottom edge open for stuffing.
  12. Turn the piece right side out. Stuff the doll firmly with toy stuffing.
  13. Using mattress stitch, sew the bottom edge closed.
  14. You can customize the doll by adding facial features, hair, and clothing using embroidery or small pieces of knit and crochet fabric.
