Stockinette: 16 stitches and 22 rows = 4 inches / 10 cm with larger needles
Pattern
Front Panel
Using the light grey yarn and smaller needles, cast on 80 (90, 100, 110) stitches.
Work in 2x2 rib pattern for 2 inches.
Switch to medium grey yarn and continue in stockinette stitch.
When piece measures 6 inches from cast on edge, start ombré effect by gradually introducing dark grey yarn. (e.g., work 2 rows with 75% medium grey and 25% dark grey, then 50/50, then 25% medium grey and 75% dark grey)
Continue in stockinette stitch until piece measures 20 (21, 22, 23) inches.
Back Panel
Work the same as front panel.
Sleeves
Using the light grey yarn and smaller needles, cast on 40 (45, 50, 55) stitches.
Work in 2x2 rib pattern for 2 inches.
Switch to medium grey yarn and continue in stockinette stitch.
When sleeve measures 3 inches from cast on edge, start ombré effect as done for front panel.
Continue in stockinette stitch, increasing 1 stitch at each end every 4 rows, until there are 60 (65, 70, 75) stitches.
Continue in stockinette stitch until sleeve measures 18 (18.5, 19, 19.5) inches.
Bind off.
Assembly
Sew the front and back panels together at the sides.
Sew the sleeves to the body.
Weave in all ends and block the sweatshirt to measurements.
