Instructions

1. Using US 7 (4.5 mm) needles, cast on 96 stitches.
2. Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches. Place marker at the beginning of the round.
3. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 1.5 inches (3.8 cm).
4. Next round: *K6, C6F; repeat from * around.
5. Continue in ribbed cable pattern until hat measures 7.5 inches (19 cm) from the cast-on edge.
6. Shape crown:
   1. Round 1: *K4, K2tog; repeat from * around.
   2. Round 2: *K3, K2tog; repeat from * around.
   3. Round 3: *K2, K2tog; repeat from * around.
   4. Round 4: *K1, K2tog; repeat from * around.
   5. Round 5: *K2tog; repeat from * around.
   6. Cut yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat.
7. Weave in all loose ends and block the beanie to shape.
