Ripple Stitch Beanie Pattern

This stylish and cozy beanie features a beautiful ripple stitch pattern that will keep you warm and fashionable all winter long.

Materials:

• Yarn: Worsted weight (UK Aran) in your choice of color – approximately 150 yards (138 meters)
• Needles: US 8 (UK 6, 5mm) 16-inch (40cm) circular needles and US 8 (UK 6, 5mm) double-pointed needles
• Tapestry needle
• Stitch marker

Gauge:

20 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette stitch

Size:

One size fits most adults

Instructions:

1. Using the circular needles, cast on 88 stitches. Join in the round, being careful not to twist, and place marker for beginning of round.
2. Begin Ripple Stitch pattern:
   Round 1: *Knit 3, purl 2, knit 1, purl 7; repeat from * to end of round.
   Rounds 2 and 4: Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches as they face you.
   Round 3: *Knit 1, purl 7, knit 1, purl 2; repeat from * to end of round.
3. Continue working in Ripple Stitch pattern until hat measures approximately 8 inches (20cm) from cast on edge, ending with Round 2.
4. Decrease rounds:
   Round 1: *K2tog, knit 6, ssk, purl 2; repeat from * to end of round.
   Round 2: *Knit 2, purl 5; repeat from * to end of round.
   Round 3: *K2tog, knit 4, ssk, purl 2; repeat from * to end of round.
   Round 4: *Knit 2, purl 3; repeat from * to end of round.
   Continue in this manner, decreasing the knit stitches by 2 each decrease round and maintaining the purl stitches, until 8 stitches remain.
5. Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail onto tapestry needle, draw through remaining stitches, pull tight to close the top of the hat, and secure on the inside.
6. Weave in ends and block your beanie to shape, if desired.
