## GAUGE
24 stitches × 36 rows = 4" / 10 cm in stockinette stitch in the round, blocked

### Gauge Swatch Instructions
Cast on 30 sts. Work in stockinette stitch (knit on RS, purl on WS) for 5". Bind off. Block swatch and measure. Adjust needle size if necessary.

## CONSTRUCTION OVERVIEW
This cardigan is worked seamlessly from the top down, beginning at the back neckline. The yoke is shaped with short rows for the back neck, then increases are worked to create a circular yoke. A decorative lace band is worked at the lower yoke before dividing for sleeves and body. The body is worked flat to maintain the open front. Sleeves are worked in the round to the cuff.

### Special Techniques

**Short Rows (German short row method recommended):**
- **On a knit row:** Work to turning point, bring yarn to front, slip next stitch purlwise, bring yarn over needle and to back creating a double stitch, turn work.
- **On a purl row:** Work to turning point, bring yarn to back, slip next stitch purlwise, bring yarn over needle and to front creating a double stitch, turn work.
- **Working the double stitch:** When you come to a double stitch, knit or purl both legs together as one stitch.

**OR use your preferred short row method (wrap & turn, shadow wrap, etc.)**

### Tips for Success
- Use lifelines before and after the lace section
- The lace pattern has a 12-stitch repeat; stitch counts are calculated to accommodate this
- Block the finished garment to open up the lace pattern
- Front edges will naturally curl slightly; this is part of the design aesthetic

### SHORT ROW SHAPING (for back neck)

This creates a better fit at the back neck and raises the back relative to the front.

**Short Row 1 (RS):** K to last 5 sts, w&t.
**Short Row 2 (WS):** P to last 5 sts, w&t.
**Short Row 3:** K to 5 sts before wrapped st, w&t.
**Short Row 4:** P to 5 sts before wrapped st, w&t.
**Short Row 5:** K to end, working wraps together with wrapped sts.
**Short Row 6:** P to end, working wraps together with wrapped sts.

### LACE YOKE BAND

This is the decorative focal point of the sweater. The lace pattern is worked over all stitches.

**Set-up Row (RS):** Work across row, placing increases as follows to achieve the correct stitch count for lace pattern:

- **For XS:** K2, [m1L, k12] 12 times, m1L, k4. *14 sts increased = 164 sts*
- **For S:** K2, [m1L, k12] 13 times, m1L, k10. *14 sts increased = 182 sts*
- **For M:** K2, [m1L, k12] 15 times, m1L, k4. *16 sts increased = 202 sts*
