## MATERIALS

### Yarn
**Weight**: Worsted (4) - approximately 50-70 yards per character

**Sheldon** needs:
- Tan/beige (skin tone) - 25 yards
- Brown (hair) - 10 yards
- Green (shirt) - 20 yards
- Black (pants) - 15 yards
- Yellow (Green Lantern logo) - small amount

**Leonard** needs:
- Tan/beige (skin tone) - 25 yards
- Dark brown (hair) - 10 yards
- Gray (hoodie) - 20 yards
- Brown (pants) - 15 yards
- Black (glasses) - small amount

**Penny** needs:
- Tan/beige (skin tone) - 25 yards
- Yellow/blonde (hair) - 15 yards
- Pink (top) - 20 yards
- Blue (jeans) - 15 yards

**Howard** needs:

## GAUGE
20 stitches × 22 rounds = 4 inches in single crochet

**Gauge is flexible** for toys, but working tightly is important to prevent stuffing from showing through.

- inc = increase (2 sc in same stitch)
- dec = invisible decrease (insert hook in front loops of next 2 sts, yarn over, pull through both, yarn over, pull through 2 loops)

## SPECIAL TECHNIQUES

### Magic Ring
Create adjustable loop to start working in the round. Alternative: Ch 2, work stitches into 2nd ch from hook.

### Invisible Decrease
Insert hook in front loop only of next st, then front loop only of following st, yarn over and pull through both loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through both loops. Creates smoother decrease than standard sc2tog.

### Working in Continuous Rounds
Do not join rounds. Use stitch marker to track beginning of round, moving it up as you work.

### Changing Colors
On last stitch before color change, work until 2 loops remain on hook, yarn over with new color and pull through. Carry unused color inside if only 1-2 rounds.

## UNIVERSAL PIECES

These instructions apply to all characters with noted color variations.

### HEAD (Make 1 per character)
Use skin tone color.

**Rnd 1**: 6 sc in magic ring [6]  
**Rnd 2**: inc in each st around [12] *(6 inc, 6×2=12✓)*  
**Rnd 3**: (sc, inc) around [18] *(6 repeats, 6×3=18✓)*  
**Rnd 4**: (2 sc, inc) around [24] *(6 repeats, 6×4=24✓)*  
**Rnds 5-10**: sc around [24] *(6 rounds even)*  

**Insert safety eyes** between Rnds 7 and 8, about 6-7 sts apart, if using.

**Rnd 11**: (2 sc, dec) around [18] *(6 repeats, 24-6=18✓)*  
**Begin stuffing firmly.**  
**Rnd 12**: (sc, dec) around [12] *(6 repeats, 18-6=12✓)*  
**Add more stuffing.**  
**Rnd 13**: dec around [6] *(6 dec, 12÷2=6✓)*  

Fasten off, leaving 12" tail. Thread tail through remaining 6 sts and pull tight to close. Weave in end inside head.

Start with pants color, change to shirt color as indicated for each character.

**Change to shirt color at end of Rnd 6.**

**Rnds 7-14**: sc around [24] *(8 rounds for shirt, total body height)*  
**Rnd 15**: (2 sc, dec) around [18] *(begin shaping neck)*  

**Stuff body firmly.**

Fasten off, leaving 20" tail for attaching head.

### ARMS (Make 2 per character)
Use skin tone for Rnds 1-3, then shirt color for remaining rounds.

**Rnd 1**: 6 sc in magic ring [6]  
**Rnd 2**: (sc, inc) around [9] *(3 repeats, increases hand slightly)*  
**Rnd 3**: sc around [9]  

**Change to shirt color.**

**Rnds 4-8**: sc around [9] *(5 rounds for arm length)*  

Stuff lightly (arms should be flexible). Flatten opening and sl st across to close, or leave open for sewing. Fasten off, leaving 12" tail.

Use pants color.

**Rnd 1**: 6 sc in magic ring [6]  
**Rnd 2**: (sc, inc) around [9] *(3 repeats for foot)*  
**Rnds 3-4**: sc around [9] *(foot section)*  
**Rnd 5**: (sc, dec) around [6] *(ankle)*

Stuff lightly. Flatten opening and sl st across to close. Fasten off, leaving 12" tail.

## CHARACTER-SPECIFIC DETAILS

### SHELDON COOPER

**Body Color Changes**:
- Rnds 1-6: Black (pants)
- Rnds 7-14: Green (Green Lantern shirt)

**Hair**:
With brown yarn, create short textured hair:
- Cut 15-20 pieces of yarn, 2" long each
- Using latch hook or crochet hook, pull loops through top and sides of head at Rnds 1-3
- Trim to 0.5-1" length for short, neat hair
- Part slightly to one side

**Green Lantern Logo** (optional):
- With yellow yarn, embroider or crochet tiny circle (6 sc in magic ring, fasten off)
- Sew to center front of green shirt

**Facial Features**:
- Safety eyes or embroider eyes between Rnds 7-8
- Small straight line for mouth with black thread

**Body Color Changes**:
- Rnds 1-6: Brown (pants)

**Hair**:
With dark brown yarn:
- Similar to Sheldon but slightly messier
- Cut 15-20 pieces of yarn, 2-2.5" long
- Attach around top and sides of head
- Trim to 1" length, leave slightly uneven for casual look

**Glasses**:
With black yarn or embroidery thread:
- Embroider two circles around eyes
- Connect with short horizontal line across bridge
- Add small lines extending back toward ears

**Hood** (optional):
- Ch 8, turn
- Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across [7]
- Rows 2-6: ch 1, turn, sc across [7]
- Fasten off, sew to back of head/neck area

**Body Color Changes**:
- Rnds 1-6: Blue (jeans)

**Hair**:
With yellow/blonde yarn, create long wavy hair:

**Base Cap**:

- Fasten off with long tail

**Hair Strands**:
- Cut 30-40 pieces of yarn, 5-6" long
- Attach through cap stitches, focusing on top and back
- Can braid or leave loose for wavy effect
- Sew cap to head

**Facial Features**:
- Eyes with eyelashes (add 2-3 small stitches above each eye)
- Small smile embroidered with pink or red thread

**Hair**:
Distinctive bowl cut with middle part:

- Trim front to straight line just above eyes
- Create center part by separating strands
- Keep sides fuller

**Belt Buckle** (optional):
- Small rectangle of yellow felt or embroidered rectangle on waist

**Dickie/Turtleneck Collar** (optional):
- With shirt color, ch 20, join with sl st to form ring
- Rnd 1: sc in each ch around [20]

**Body Color Changes**:

**Sweater Vest V-Neck**:
When working blue section, leave Rnd 9 center front 4-5 sts in white to create V-neck effect, or embroider V after completion.

**Hair**:
With black yarn, create thick styled hair:
- Cut 30-35 pieces of yarn, 2-3" long
- Attach densely across top and sides of head
- Style upward and slightly to side
- Keep fuller volume than other characters

**Facial Features**:
- Standard eyes
- Small smile or concerned expression

## ASSEMBLY

### Order of Assembly
1. Attach legs to bottom of body
2. Attach arms to sides of body at shoulder area (Rnd 12-13)
3. Stuff head if not already done
4. Pin head to body, check positioning
5. Sew head to body using whip stitch around neck opening
6. Attach hair pieces
7. Add facial features if not already done
8. Add character-specific details

### Leg Placement
- Position legs at front bottom of body (Rnd 1 area)
- Space about 4-6 sts apart
- Sew securely with whip stitch, going around each leg opening twice

### Arm Placement
- Attach at sides of body at Rnds 12-13 (shoulder area)
- Angle slightly forward
- Sew through flattened arm opening into body side

### Head Attachment
- Pin head to body neck opening (Rnd 15 of body)
- Ensure face is centered
- Whip stitch around entire circumference
- Go around twice for security
- Weave in ends inside body

### Hair Application Tips
- Work from bottom to top for layered look
- Keep stitches close together for fuller appearance
- Trim after all pieces attached for even length
- Use fabric glue on knots inside if desired for extra security
