Overview
Cozy beanie with a 2x2 rib brim and a smooth stockinette body, designed to fit a range of head sizes with optional crown shaping. Uses DK weight yarn and accessible techniques for beginners and beyond.
Materials
- Yarn DK weight 100 g (3.5 oz) skein ~ 230 yd (210 m) per skein; you will need 1 skein for Newborn to Teen sizes and 1 or 2 skeins for Adults, depending on length and colorwork
- Needles US 6,7,8 circulars 16 in and 24 in (4.0, 4.5, 5.0 mm); UK Old 4,5,6; Metric 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 mm
- Double Pointed Needles or a set of small circulars for the crown

Gauge
Gauge is 22 stitches and 28 rows in stockinette in the round over 4 inches using DK weight yarn on 4.5 mm US 7 / 4.0 mm UK Old 6 / 4.5 mm Metric. Adjust needle size if your gauge differs.
Sizes and Finished Circumference
- Newborn approximately 14 1/2 in (37 cm) circumference — cast on 80 stitches

Pattern
- Cast on the number of stitches for your size using a stretchy long tail cast on and join to knit in the round, placing a marker at the start of the round
- Work 1 x 1 or 2 x 2 rib for 1 1/2 in (4 cm) to form a snug brim
- Body: switch to stockinette in the round and work until body length measures 5 to 6 3/4 in (12.5 to 17 cm) depending on size
- Crown decreases: begin when length is reached. Round A repeat pattern: *k8, k2tog; repeat to end
- Round B Knit
- Round C *k7, k2tog; repeat to end; Round D Knit
- Repeat rounds A and C with decreasing k counts until 6 to 8 stitches remain
- Thread tail through remaining stitches, pull tight to close, and secure with the tapestry needle
Finishing: weave in ends, block lightly if desired for even fabric. For a snugger fit, choose a smaller needle size or add 1 more round of ribbing. For a looser fit, add an extra inch of body before crown shaping

Machine wash cold and lay flat to dry or hand wash and air dry to preserve elasticity
