Cable Sweater Coat Knitting Pattern

Materials:

Yarn: Bulky weight yarn (Category 5). Approximately 1200 yards (1100 meters).
Needles: US 10.5 (UK 3, 6.5mm) straight knitting needles.

Gauge:

14 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette stitch.

Size:

One size fits most.

Instructions:

Back Panel:

Cast on 80 stitches.
Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 30 inches (76cm) from cast on edge.
Begin cable pattern: Row 1 (RS): K4, *C6F, K6; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, K4. Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl all stitches. Row 3: K4, *K6, C6B; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, K4. Rows 4-6: Repeat Rows 1-3.
Continue in cable pattern until piece measures 40 inches (102cm) from cast on edge.
Work in stockinette stitch for 10 more inches (25cm).
Bind off all stitches.

Front Panels (make 2):

Cast on 40 stitches.
Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 30 inches (76cm) from cast on edge.
Begin cable pattern same as Back Panel.
Continue in cable pattern until piece measures 40 inches (102cm) from cast on edge.
Work in stockinette stitch for 10 more inches (25cm).
Bind off all stitches.

Assembly:

With right sides facing, seam Front Panels to Back Panel at shoulders using mattress stitch.
With right sides facing, seam sides using mattress stitch, leaving armholes at sides.

Finishing:

Weave in all ends and block the sweater coat to measurements.
