Cable Sweater Coat Knitting Pattern
This cozy and stylish cable sweater coat is perfect for chilly days. Knit with bulky yarn, it works up quickly and is a great project for intermediate knitters.
Materials:
- Yarn: Bulky weight yarn (Category 5). Approximately 1200 yards (1100 meters).
- Needles: US 10.5 (UK 3, 6.5mm) straight knitting needles.
- Cable needle
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle
Gauge:
14 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette stitch.
Size:
One size fits most.
Instructions:
Back Panel:
- Cast on 80 stitches.
- Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 30 inches (76cm) from cast on edge.
- Begin cable pattern: Row 1 (RS): K4, *C6F, K6; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, K4. Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl all stitches. Row 3: K4, *K6, C6B; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, K4. Rows 4-6: Repeat Rows 1-3.
- Continue in cable pattern until piece measures 40 inches (102cm) from cast on edge.
- Work in stockinette stitch for 10 more inches (25cm).
- Bind off all stitches.
Front Panels (make 2):
- Cast on 40 stitches.
- Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 30 inches (76cm) from cast on edge.
- Begin cable pattern same as Back Panel.
- Continue in cable pattern until piece measures 40 inches (102cm) from cast on edge.
- Work in stockinette stitch for 10 more inches (25cm).
- Bind off all stitches.
Assembly:
- With right sides facing, seam Front Panels to Back Panel at shoulders using mattress stitch.
- With right sides facing, seam sides using mattress stitch, leaving armholes at sides.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends and block the sweater coat to measurements.
