Pattern
- <strong>Cast on:</strong> Using long tail cast on method, cast on 64 stitches.
- <strong>Ribbing:</strong> *K2, P2; repeat from * to end of round. Repeat this round for 2 inches.
- <strong>Body:</strong> Knit all stitches for 5 inches.
- <strong>Cable pattern:</strong>
- Rounds 1-4: *P2, C6B*; repeat from * to end of round.
- Rounds 5-8: *P2, K6*; repeat from * to end of round.
- Repeat rounds 1-8 until hat measures 8 inches from cast on edge.
- <strong>Crown shaping:</strong>
- Round 1: *P2tog, K6*; repeat from * to end of round.
- Round 2: *P1, K2tog, P1, K5*; repeat from * to end of round.
- Round 3: *P1, K2tog, P1, K4*; repeat from * to end of round.
- Continue in this manner, decreasing the knit stitches by one each repeat, until 8 stitches remain.
- <strong>Finishing:</strong>
- Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Draw tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the beanie.
- Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle. Block the beanie to shape if desired.
