French Beret Knitting Pattern

Cast On and Ribbing

1. Using long-tail cast on method, cast on 90 stitches.
2. Place marker and join in the round, being careful not to twist.
3. Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 2 inches.

Body of the Beret

1. Switch to stockinette stitch (knit all rounds) and continue until hat measures 7 inches from the cast-on edge.

Shaping the Beret

1. Round 1: *K6, K2tog, repeat from * around (80 stitches).
2. Round 2 and all even rounds: Knit.
3. Round 3: *K5, K2tog, repeat from * around (70 stitches).
4. Continue in this manner, decreasing by 10 stitches every other round, until 10 stitches remain.
5. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tight. Secure and weave in ends.

Finishing

1. Block your beret to shape, gently stretching to open up the lacework.
2. Weave in all ends and trim excess yarn.
3. Your one-color French beret is ready to wear and show off!
