90s Beige Computer Colorwork Pullover & Winter Hat

A fitted set-in crew-neck pullover in worsted weight with green and black framing and a bold angled 1990s beige desktop computer motif centered on the front. Gauge

20 sts and 28 rows = 4" / 10 cm in stockinette stitch on larger needles, blocked. Make a gauge swatch. Adjust needles if needed. Colorwork gauge should match; change needles for chart section if you strand tightly.

Notes

• Pullover is worked flat in pieces from the bottom up and seamed. Set-in sleeve construction.
• Ribbing is k2, p2 and requires stitch counts divisible by 4.
• Front features the computer motif from the attached chart. Work chart in intarsia (recommended for large solid areas) or stranded; twist yarns at color changes to avoid holes. Carry unused yarn loosely if stranding.
• When working chart, read RS (odd) chart rows right to left, WS (even) rows left to right. Knit RS rows, purl WS rows in chart colors.
• Sleeve caps and armholes are shaped to the same depth so the sleeve sets in cleanly.
• All stitch-count checks are shown with ✓.

Attached Stitch Chart

Use the separate attached chart panel supplied with this pattern for the angled 90s beige computer motif (do not rely on any inline grid; none is printed here).

Placement in pattern: The chart is worked only on the Front, centered, beginning after the lower body plain section and ending before or at the start of front neck shaping (exact starting row given in Front instructions). The chart sits above the ribbing and below the shoulders.

How to read the chart:

• Each square = 1 stitch; each row of squares = 1 row.
• RS rows (odd numbers): read right to left; knit the stitches in the colors shown.
• WS rows (even numbers): read left to right; purl the stitches in the colors shown.
• Work any blank/background squares in MC (green) unless the chart key indicates otherwise.
• Computer body = CC2 (beige); screen, slots, and shadows = CC3; outlines/keys/accents = CC1 (black) and optional CC4.
• Because the computer is drawn at an angle, color changes are stepped—use bobbins or long floats managed loosely. Catch floats every 3–4 sts on the WS if stranding.

Color / yarn management & stitch-count integration:

• Chart width is 48 sts; chart height is 56 rows (see attached key for exact symbols).
• On every size the 48 chart sts are centered: remaining sts each side are worked in MC (or MC with optional narrow black vertical accent lines 2 sts wide if desired).
• Side sts each side of chart: S 22 / M 26 / L 32 / XL 36 / 2XL 42. (Check: 22+48+22=92 ✓; 26+48+26=100 ✓; 32+48+32=112 ✓; 36+48+36=120 ✓; 42+48+42=132 ✓.)
• Maintain exact stitch count while working the chart—no increases or decreases inside the chart window. Armhole shaping that coincides with upper chart rows is worked in the side (non-chart) stitches only; if a decrease would eat into the chart, finish the chart row first then shape.
• When chart is complete, break CC2/CC3/CC4 and continue in MC only (with CC1 accents if used).

PULLOVER

BACK

With smaller needles and CC1 (black), CO 92 (100, 112, 120, 132) sts.

Ribbing: Work k2, p2 rib for 2½" / 6.5 cm, ending after a WS row. Break CC1.

Change to larger needles and MC (green). Work in St st (knit RS, purl WS) until piece measures 16 (16, 16.5, 16.5, 17)" / 40.5 (40.5, 42, 42, 43) cm from CO edge, ending after a WS row.

Shape armholes (set-in): BO 4 (4, 5, 5, 6) sts at beg of next 2 rows. 84 (92, 102, 110, 120) sts. Dec row (RS): K1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. 2 sts dec. Rep Dec row every RS row 5 (6, 7, 8, 9) more times. 72 (78, 86, 92, 100) sts.

Shape shoulders: BO 7 (8, 9, 10, 11) sts at beg of next 2 rows. BO 7 (8, 9, 10, 11) sts at beg of next 2 rows. BO 8 (8, 9, 9, 10) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Place remaining 28 (30, 32, 34, 36) sts on holder for back neck.

With smaller needles and CC1, CO 92 (100, 112, 120, 132) sts. Work k2, p2 rib for 2½" / 6.5 cm, ending after a WS row. Break CC1.

Change to larger needles and MC. Work in St st until piece measures 6 (6, 6.5, 6.5, 7)" / 15 (15, 16.5, 16.5, 18) cm from CO edge, ending after a WS row.

Begin attached chart (computer motif): Next row (RS): K22 (26, 32, 36, 42) MC, pm, work Row 1 of attached chart over next 48 sts, pm, k22 (26, 32, 36, 42) MC. Continue in St st, working chart between markers and MC outside markers, until all 56 chart rows are complete.
(Piece will measure approx. 14 (14, 14.5, 14.5, 15)" / 35.5 (35.5, 37, 37, 38) cm from CO when chart ends.) Remove chart markers. Break contrast yarns. Continue in MC only.

Work even until piece measures same as Back to armhole, ending after a WS row.

Shape armholes: Work identical armhole BO and decreases as for Back. 72 (78, 86, 92, 100) sts. Work even until armhole measures 5 (5.5, 5.5, 6, 6.5)" / 12.5 (14, 14, 15, 16.5) cm, ending after a WS row.

Shape front neck: Next row (RS): K28 (30, 33, 35, 38), place center 16 (18, 20, 22, 24) sts on holder, join second ball of yarn, knit to end. Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 6 times. 22 (24, 27, 29, 32) sts each side.

SLEEVES (make 2)

With smaller needles and CC1, CO 44 (44, 48, 48, 52) sts. Work k2, p2 rib for 2½" / 6.5 cm, ending after a WS row. Break CC1.

Change to larger needles and MC. Work 4 rows St st.

Inc row (RS): K1, M1R, knit to last st, M1L, k1. 2 sts inc. Rep Inc row every 8 (6, 6, 4, 4)th row 11 (14, 15, 18, 19) more times. 68 (74, 80, 86, 92) sts.

Shape sleeve cap (set-in): BO 4 (4, 5, 5, 6) sts at beg of next 2 rows. 60 (66, 70, 76, 80) sts. Dec row (RS): K1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. Rep Dec row every RS row 5 (6, 7, 8, 9) more times. 48 (52, 54, 58, 60) sts. Then dec every other RS row (i.e., every 4th row) 3 (3, 3, 3, 3) times. 42 (46, 48, 52, 54) sts. Cap height approx. matches armhole depth for clean set-in.

FINISHING (Pullover)

Block pieces to measurements. Sew shoulder seams. Set in sleeves, matching center of cap to shoulder seam and easing cap to armhole. Sew side and sleeve seams.

Neckband: With smaller 16" circular needle and CC1, beginning at left shoulder, pick up and knit 12 (12, 14, 14, 16) sts down left front neck, k16 (18, 20, 22, 24) held front neck sts, pick up and knit 12 (12, 14, 14, 16) sts up right front neck, k28 (30, 32, 34, 36) held back neck sts. 68 (72, 80, 84, 92) sts.

Pm for beg of rnd. Work k2, p2 rib in the rnd for 1¼" / 3 cm. BO loosely in rib. Weave in all ends. Block again lightly if needed.

WINTER HAT (matching)

Hat

With smaller 16" circular needle and CC1, CO 100 sts. Pm for beg of rnd and join, being careful not to twist. Work k2, p2 rib for 4½" / 11.5 cm (fold-back brim).

Change to larger 16" circular and MC. Knit 2 rnds. Optional accent: knit 2 rnds CC1, 2 rnds MC.

Optional mini computer band (simplified): If desired, work a short 12-st × 14-row reduction of the attached chart motif centered at front (sts 45–56 of the rnd) using CC2/CC3 while remaining sts stay MC; otherwise continue plain.

Continue in St st (knit every rnd) with MC until piece measures 7½" / 19 cm from CO with brim unfolded (approx. 5½" / 14 cm above rib), or 1¾" / 4.5 cm less than desired finished height.

Crown shaping (switch to DPNs when needed): Rnd 1: *K8, k2tog; rep from * around. 90 sts. Rnd 2 and all even rnds: Knit. Rnd 3: *K7, k2tog; rep from * around. 80 sts. Rnd 5: *K6, k2tog; rep from * around. 70 sts. Rnd 7: *K5, k2tog; rep from * around. 60 sts. Rnd 9: *K4, k2tog; rep from * around. 50 sts. Rnd 11: *K3, k2tog; rep from * around. 40 sts. Rnd 13: *K2, k2tog; rep from * around. 30 sts. Rnd 15: *K1, k2tog; rep from * around. 20 sts. Rnd 17: *K2tog; rep from * around. 10 sts.

Break yarn, thread through remaining 10 sts, pull tight, fasten securely. Weave in ends. Fold brim up. Block lightly over a form if desired.

Final Notes

• Match sweater and hat colors exactly for a coordinated set.
• The angled computer reads clearly from several feet away when worked at the stated gauge; keep floats soft so the fabric does not pucker.
• All counts above have been verified for internal consistency with gauge and shaping.
