Designed for a 19cm silicone doll with chest circumference 15cm and head circumference 14cm. Knitted flat with 3.0mm needles and 4-ply (fingering) yarn. This pattern includes row-by-row instructions and small ASCII illustrations for shaping. Gauge, stitch counts and rows are calculated to fit the dimensions given; make a tiny swatch and adjust if your tension differs.
Gauge: 28 sts = 10 cm (stockinette) on 3.0 mm needles. Row gauge approx 36 rows = 10 cm.
Target measurements (finished): Chest circumference ~15.6 cm (44 sts around), Front/back each ~22 sts at widest. Dress length (vest top to waist seam) ~4 cm. Skirt length from pick-up ~6 cm (leaf points to edge). Hat internal circumference ~14 cm (40 sts).
k = knit, p = purl, st(s) = stitch(es), yo = yarn over, k2tog = knit 2 together (right-leaning dec), ssk = slip-slip-knit (left-leaning dec), m1 = make 1 (lift bar), RS = right side, WS = wrong side, CO = cast on, BO = bind off, rep = repeat.
Cast on and ribbing create a neat neckline and hem. The bodice is vest-style (no underarm seams) so armholes are finished simply.
Cast on 22 sts.
Row 1 (RS): k across. (22 sts) Row 2 (WS): p across. Row 3-6: Work 2x2 rib (k2, p2) across for 4 rows of rib (or 6 rows total including Rows 1-2 if preferred). Change to stockinette. Row 7 (RS): k across. Row 8 (WS): p across. Work stockinette until piece measures 4.0 cm from cast-on edge (approx 14 rows of stockinette after rib). (22 sts) Shoulder shaping (very small shoulders): Row: RS, work until last 7 sts, BO 8 sts, knit remaining 7 sts and finish row separately (you will shape both shoulders later using short rows on front; back is left with a small shoulder). Alternatively BO 4 sts at start of next RS row and 4 sts at end of following RS row to split shoulders evenly. Note: For this small scale it is simplest to BO central 8 sts for neck and BO shoulders in two steps—see seaming notes. Bind off remaining sts. Press gently and set aside.
Make two mirror fronts or a single front with center shaping (we'll do single front with a small V vest opening if you like). For a simple vest front with v-shape:
Cast on 22 sts. Rows 1-6: as Back rib. Change to stockinette. Work until piece measures 3.5 cm from CO edge (approx 12 rows stockinette after rib). (22 sts) Begin shallow V-neck shaping: Row (RS) 1: k11, k2tog, k8. (21 sts) Row (WS): p across. Row (RS) 2: k11, k2tog, k7. (20 sts) Row (WS): p across. Continue decreasing at center right-side edge every RS row 1 st (k2tog on right side of V) until front left and right shoulder align with back shoulders (aim to end with 7 sts each shoulder, leaving 8 sts bound off in center like back). This will be approximately 3-4 decreases depending on where you stop. Bind off remaining shoulder sts to mirror back shaping. Seam shoulders: mattress stitch RS to RS. If you used a split bind off, seam accordingly. Ensure the front V sits centered and neat.
We create a decorative leaf skirt by picking up stitches along the lower edge of the bodice and knitting alternating leaf points using short rows and decreases. For simplicity we instruct knitting a small skirt panel and seaming below bodice.
Pick up along lower edge of front and back combined (or if you prefer, pick up along the joined bodice). Total pick-up: 48 sts (this gives a slight flare; adjust to taste). Use a 3.0 mm needle. Row 1 (RS): knit across. (48 sts) Row 2 (WS): p across. Row 3 (RS): *k6, yo, k2tog* repeat across row (creates decorative eyelets to suggest leaves). (48 sts) Row 4 (WS): p across. Rows 5-10: Work stockinette (K on RS, P on WS) for 6 rows to lengthen skirt base (approx 1.7 cm). (48 sts) Leaf points: We'll form 6 leaves across width; each leaf worked across an 8-st panel with short rows and decreases. Divide sts into six groups of 8 sts (6 x 8 = 48). For each 8-st section, work the following "leaf repeat" across only that section, leaving other stitches on a spare needle or use stitch holders and work sequentially, then join. Leaf (8 sts section) - work flat on RS and WS edges, then seam to create point: Row 1 (RS): k8. Row 2 (WS): p8. Row 3 (RS): k6, k2tog. (7) Row 4 (WS): p7. Row 5 (RS): k5, k2tog. (6) Row 6 (WS): p6. Row 7 (RS): k4, k2tog. (5) Row 8 (WS): p5. Row 9 (RS): k3, k2tog. (4) Row 10 (WS): p4. BO all sts for this leaf. Repeat for each of the 6 sections. When all leaf sections are done, seam each leaf center lightly to shape a pointed leaf. Block gently to open eyelets and shape leaves outward; a little starch can help hold the leaf curve if desired.
Sleeves are worked flat, gathered at top with elastic and seamed. Make two identical sleeves.
Cast on 20 sts. Row 1 (RS): k across. Row 2 (WS): p across. Rows 3-6: Work 2x2 rib (k2,p2) for 2 cm total for sleeve cuff (approx 8 rows). Change to stockinette. Row 9 (RS): k across. (20 sts) Increase rows to form puff cap: Row 10 (WS): p across. Row 11 (RS): *k5, m1* repeat across to end. (24 sts) Row 12 (WS): p across. Row 13 (RS): *k6, m1* repeat across. (28 sts) Row 14 (WS): p across. Row 15 (RS): k across. Row 16 (WS): p across. Row 17 (RS): k2tog across every 6th and 7th stitch to start forming cap crown: (work k5, k2tog) repeat -> reduces to ~25 sts. Row 18 (WS): p across. Work even in stockinette for 2 rows. Finish cuff hem with 2x2 rib for 2 rows if you want a small cuff, then BO loosely. Gather top edge by running a length of waste yarn through the top row RS and pull gently to create the puff; secure with elastic or tie end and stitch inside sleeve head. Sew sleeve into armhole by matching center of sleeve cap to shoulder seam and easing gathers evenly into the armhole opening. Repeat for other sleeve.
Simple flat slippers that seam and are shaped to a small point at toe.
Toe-up small slipper, worked flat then seamed. Cast on 12 sts. Rows 1-6: k on RS, p on WS (stockinette) to length ~1.2 cm. Row 7 (RS): k2, m1, k8, m1, k2. (14 sts) Row 8 (WS): p across. Row 9 (RS): k2, m1, k10, m1, k2. (16 sts) Row 10 (WS): p across. Row 11 (RS): k across. Work even until slipper length equals sole length of the doll foot (~2.0 cm). Then shape toe: Decrease rows: Row (RS): k2, ssk, k to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. (reducing 2 sts) WS: p across. Repeat decrease row every RS row until 8 sts remain. BO remaining sts. Fold slipper sole and seam with mattress stitch, leaving small opening for foot. Add a little strap across instep: pick up 12 sts across top of shoe, work 4 rows rib, BO, sew ends to sides to form strap or add a tiny button. Make second slipper to match.
This hat is knit flat and seamed into a petaled crown that sits like an upside-down flower over the head. Cast on to match head circumference, shape downward petals with wedge bind-offs.
Cast on 40 sts (approx head circumference 14 cm at gauge). Rows 1-6: Work 1x1 rib (k1,p1) or 2x2 rib for 6 rows to form brim (approx 1.5 cm). Stretch brim to fit snugly. Row 7 (RS): k across. Row 8 (WS): p across. Work stockinette until you have 2 cm from brim (approx 7 rows stockinette). Petal shaping: divide hat into 5 petals (8 sts each): we'll bind off wedge centers to create five rounded petals. Row (RS): *k6, k2tog* repeat to end. (reduces; make sure each petal wedge is shaped) Next Row (WS): p across. Now create petals by working small wedges for each 8-st block (work sequentially on block, place others on holder): For each 8-st petal block: Row 1: k8 Row 2: p8 Row 3: k6, k2tog (7) Row 4: p7 Row 5: k5, k2tog (6) Row 6: p6 Row 7: BO all remaining for that petal. Repeat for each petal block. When all petals are BO, seam hat side edge RS to RS. Gently shape petals by tacking down small points to form an inverted-flower look; add a tiny bit of stuffing at petal base if you want more bloom. Optionally crochet or knit a tiny central bud and sew to center top inside for neat finish.
Worked flat in three pieces: back and two fronts. Simple stockinette with tiny button band.
Back: Cast on 28 sts. Rows 1-6: k2,p2 rib for bottom band (6 rows). Row 7 (RS): k across. Work stockinette until piece measures 3.0 cm from CO (approx 11 rows). Shape shoulders: BO 3 sts at start of next 2 RS rows to leave center back 22 sts; BO remaining sts and seam shoulders to fronts. Fronts (make 2, mirror): Cast on 14 sts. Rows 1-6: k2,p2 rib for bottom band. Work stockinette until front matches back height. Neck shaping: at center edge (front opening) BO 1-2 sts every other RS row to form small opening edge (or leave straight and add button band), until shoulder width matches back shoulder. BO remaining shoulder sts. Button band (optional): pick up 14 sts along front opening edge (or work as you go). Work garter stitch 6 rows and BO. Add buttonholes by working k2tog yo in row 3 of band placement; place 3 tiny buttonholes evenly spaced. Assembly: mattress stitch shoulders and side seams leaving armholes unseamed. Sew on tiny buttons matching buttonholes. Weave in ends. Tip: For a neater edge around neckline, pick up stitches and work 2 rounds of garter stitch or a 3-row I-cord bind-off narrow edge; pick up fewer sts to avoid flaring.
