Oversized Cable Knitted Sweater Pattern

Description

This pattern will guide you through creating a cozy and stylish oversized cable knitted sweater.

Yarn: Aran weight yarn (UK: 10 ply, AU: 12 ply)
- Approximately 1200-1500 yards (1100-1370 meters) for S/M/L sizes
Needles: US 8 (UK 6, 5mm) and US 10 (UK 4, 6mm) straight or circular needles
Cable needle
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle
Scissors

16 stitches and 22 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch using US 10 needles.

S/M/L (Instructions for larger sizes in parentheses as XL/XXL/XXXL)

Using US 8 needles, cast on 100 (110, 120) stitches.
Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 2 inches (5 cm).
Switch to US 10 needles and start cable pattern:
Row 1 (RS): *P2, C6F, P2; repeat from * to end.
Row 2 (WS) and all even rows: Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches as they appear.
Row 3: *P2, K6, P2; repeat from * to end.
Row 5: Repeat row 1.
Row 7: Repeat row 3.
Row 8: Repeat row 2.
Continue in cable pattern until piece measures 18 inches (45 cm) from cast on edge (adjust for desired length).
Shape sleeves:
Next row (RS): K30 (33, 36), place marker, increase 1 stitch in next stitch, K40 (44, 48), place marker, increase 1 stitch in next stitch, K to end.
Next row (WS): Purl across, slipping markers.
Continue in stockinette stitch, maintaining cable pattern on the front and back sections, until sleeves measure 16 inches (40 cm) from underarm.
Join underarms using your preferred method (e.g. mattress stitch).
Weave in all ends and block the sweater to measurements.
